Term 1, 2018 promised to be a big term and has certainly lived up to the expectations. Each weekend had an opportunity for our swimmers to improve their swimming skills and challenge themselves. After a busy term, we would like to congratulate all our swimmers who represented SWE Stars Swimming Club and hope everyone enjoys the upcoming Easter break.
Metro East All Junior Trials
The first event of the year was the Metro East All Junior Trials. Swimmers were aiming to achieve a top 10 result in their events to qualify for the All Junior Finals. Well done to Grace Cox, Claire Lim, Manon Shaw, Tiernan Lim-Joon, Anna Bowley and Hugo Pinkster who qualified to swim in the finals on Saturday 7 April 2018.
Swimming Victoria Relay Meet
This year was the Inaugural Relay Meet organised by Swimming Victoria and will be a hard one to top. The day started with the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton completing two laps of the pool. Swimmers and parents were able to rub shoulders with Steve Hooker and Loudy Wiggins as they paraded the baton. The racing was also very exciting with the relay only program providing a lot of fun for our swimmers.
Half Moon Bay Cerberus Swim
In a change of scenery, two of our swimmers, Sebastian Bunnik and Josh Mac participated in the Cerberus Swim Classic open water swim. The swim was 1.2km in the calm waters of Half Moon Bay. This was a fantastic experience for the boys and we encourage all swimmers to try an open water swim in the future.
Metro East District Championships
More of a picnic than a swim meet, the District Champs brought the excitement of a strong community feel. It was fantastic to see our swimmers and parents standing on the side of the pool, cheering on each of our swimmers and relay teams. Well done to all our A Grade medallists from the day, Anna Bowley: Bronze – 50 Backstroke, Chloe Johnstone: Gold – 200 Butterfly and Tiernan Lim-Joon: Silver – 100 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly.
Firbank Aquastars Long Course Meet
The Firbank meet was our only opportunity to compete in an official meet at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre this term. Swimmers took this opportunity competing in several 400 metre events in order to gain valuable racing experience. Well done to these swimmers for stepping out of their comfort zone and challenging themselves.
SWE Stars Encouragement Met
The final event of the term brought together our whole swimming community. From our youngest swimmers in level 4 and 5 to our older swimmers in squads (and even some parents) took part in the SWE Stars Encouragemnt Meet. Thank you to CA Tritons who supported this meet and brought a small team of swimmers to compete.
