The SWE Stars Swimming Club has started with a bang.

On Sunday 30 July 2017 swimmers walked in to a sea of green as the club hosted the first of many social events for our members.

The morning provided swimmers the chance to let their hair down and see their teammates and coaches in a different setting as they had opportunities for games and activities in the pool.

The highlight of the party was the presentation by Olympians Belinda Hocking and Sue Harbottle. Belinda and Sue spoke about their swimming experiences and the lessons they learnt during their time so far in the sport. Belinda and Sue reinforced the importance of a strong team environment and the value of teamwork, to achieve both personal and common goals. Swimmers had the opportunity to hold and wear uniform and medals from Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Some lucky swimmers walked away with prizes thanks to the generous donations from our partners EVO Sportswear, Vorgee and Swimming with Excellence. Thank you to our partners for providing such wonderful gifts to assist in raising the awareness of our Swim Club.

Thank you to all the parents and families who assisted on the day from setting up the pool toys and decorations, selling raffle tickets, running the uniform stand and cleaning up after. Thank you to the Swimming with Excellence staff who also assisted with the set-up of the pool and the activities to ensure each swimmer had an enjoyable time. Events like these are unable to run without the assistance of volunteers, of which we greatly appreciate the support.

SWE Stars is looking forward to hosting many more events in the future.

Dear Susan and Adrian

I would like to thank you, together with your staff, swimmers and parents for welcoming me to the “Opening Party” of the new SWE Stars Swimming Club on Sunday 30th July. I also thank you for allowing me to tell my swimming story to the swimmers, parents and staff in attendance on the day.

The party was full of excitement, including relays and fun activities for the swimmers.  The pool looked very festive with colourful decorations and equipment for all swimmers to enjoy.

The new Club uniform is smart, eye catching and different and I know it will be worn with pride by all members.

I take this opportunity to encourage all swimmers in lessons and squads to aim to become members of SWE Stars, as it will bring you a wonderful sense of belonging, long lasting friendships, enormous pride and most of all, lots of motivation and great fun.

Congratulations to the organisers of the day and good luck to all members of SWE Stars in the future, I look forward to following your success.

Regards

Sue Harbottle (McKenzie)

Mexico 1968 Olympian

Swimming with Excellence has seen terrific growth since operation commenced October 2015. We started with 19 classes per night in our Learn to Swim and 2 squads. We now run up to 25 classes on most nights and have 5 squads operating.

We witnessed nerves, excitement and even some tears however, every swimmer who attended learned valuable lessons.

Congratulations to every swimmer who has attended any of these meets.

June 2016 saw our first Encouragement Meet held in the Bialik College Gringlas Sports Centre. 44 swimmers entered this meet. Almost every swimmer entered were competing in their first swimming meet. We witnessed nerves, excitement and even some tears however, every swimmer who attended learned valuable lessons.

Since June 2016 have hosted 3 more Encouragement Meets with each one becoming more popular. We invited St Leonards Swimming Club and MLC Aquatic to join us which has provided further challenges, excitement and opportunities for swimmers.

Our most recent Encouragement Meet held on Sunday 19 March, 2017 received 65 swimmers enter. There were more entries in100 metre Individual Medley (IM) and Butterfly races than ever before. The confidence of swimmers has increased and quality of the competition was a high standard.

During this time we have attended 4 external meets, with each meet offering something new and different.

Doncaster Templestowe in Term 4, 2016 – Long Course 50 metre pool and an outdoor venue. This meet gave swimmers a chance to race in 100m events, another first for most swimmers.

St Leonards invited us to join 2 meets at the College offering great opportunities to swimmers to see how much they have improved racing swimmers previously raced against.

In February 2017, we attended our largest meet; Metro East All Junior Trials. Swimmers were competing with the best swimmers in Metro East.

Over 500 swimmers entered from all over the district in an attempt to finish top 10 in their event to progress to the Metro All Junior Semi-Finals. 25 SWE swimmers entered with 5 achieving a top 10 result.

Congratulations to Sophie Watts, Manon Shaw, Hugo Pinkster, Anna Bowley and Sebatian Poon in qualifying for the Metro All Junior Semi finals.

Congratulations to every swimmer who has attended any of these meets. The coaches have observed improvement in skills, understanding competition procedures such as marshalling and racing rules, confidence growth in each swimmer who has attended.

Encouragement Meets are the start of a journey for our club. From 1July  2017, SWE Stars Swimming Club Inc will commence which means we will have the opportunity to attend more and bigger swim meets. This will enable swimmers the opportunity to learn more about themselves, their swimming as well as provision for gaining qualifying times for State and National level meets.

A special thank you to all parents who have volunteered at our meets. Whether it is timekeeping, marshalling or entering/recording results each of you have contributed to the events becoming more successful.

We would also like to recognise every parent and family member who has supported their child/children to give them the opportunity to participate in these meets. The lessons gained from swimming competitions will last with them forever and you are providing the opportunity for your child to gain the most out of their sport.

For those who have not attended a meet as yet, there will be many opportunities in the future. These meets are fun and give you additional motivation to swim and challenge yourself.

The lessons gained from swimming competitions will last with them forever and you are providing the opportunity for your child to gain the most out of their sport.

The future of Swimming with Excellence and SWE Stars looks very positive and we are excited to continue to grow and offer everyone further opportunities.
